Lab #14- Soil

Aim: To estimate the proportion of different sizes in a sample of soil.


Apparatus & Material: soil sample, container, water, measuring cylinder and spoon.


Method: (Rewrite in past tense)

  1. Add two (2) spoons of a sample of soil to the measuring cylinder.

  2. Fill the measuring cylinder with water to the 100 ml mark.

  3. Stir the mixture and allow the soil to settle until the different layers are visible.

  4. Use a ruler or the measuring cylinder to estimate/measure the proportion of the different layers of soil.

  5. Record the observations.
